Last Saturday night was a great night! We had a number of people new to bike polo come out and give it a try. We always try to have spare gear for people to borrow, but for anyone that would like to invest in their own stuff here’s some handy links where you can shop for mallets, balls, parts, and bikes.
For a variety of stuff try Heckler’s Alley. They’ve got almost anything you’d need to get rolling.
For mallets and shafts check out Donata Bike Polo.
For everything second hand, there’s a group on Facebook.
Here’s a short list of bike frames that are purpose built for bike polo:
The St. Pete Bicycle Co-Op asked us to give a bike polo demonstration to follow their “Let HER Show You” event. This upcoming Saturday (September 26th) at 2pm the Co-Op will be conducting a women’s bicycle repair workshop. Check out the event on Facebook here. Space is limited, so RSVP and arrive early to hold your spot!
Immediately following the event at 3pm will be an introductory hands on bike polo demo. Make sure to bring a helmet and a bike, we’ll take care of the rest. Click on the image of the map for directions.
This upcoming Thursday, August 6th, will kick off our Learn Bike Polo night. Things will start at 7pm at the multi-use court at J W Cate Recreation Center in St. Petersburg (22 Ave N and 58th St). Bring a bike and a helmet and we’ll provide the rest. We’ll be going over the basic rules, gear, and fundamentals of bike polo. If you’re somebody that’s played before, come on out and lend a hand. After practicing some of the basics we’ll probably wind up playing some pick-up games. The goal of the night is to introduce people to bike polo and provide a less intimidating environment than a regular evening of pick-up. Feel free to print out the flier image above and post it at your local bike shop or places of interest.
Hope to see you there.
